I WRITE to thank you for and congratulate you on your opinion page (20/9).

Another superb column by your best columnist, Frank Devine (but who is only marginally ahead of Barry Cohen -- Canberra's loss was a massive gain for your readers), enhancing his usual dazzling prose with an unfeigned expertise on the subject of the press.

Your regular political correspondent, Glenn Milne's centre-piece contribution maintained his top-notch standard of detailed but even-handed analysis.

And finally, a contrasting reminder of the fuzzy-headed, misguided sentiment which led to so many of our present problems from a former Treasurer, Dr Cairns.
