{"id":1862,"date":"2010-05-26T12:38:41","date_gmt":"2010-05-26T02:38:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hifi-writer.com\/wpblog\/?p=1862"},"modified":"2010-05-26T12:40:14","modified_gmt":"2010-05-26T02:40:14","slug":"madman-luc-besson","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/hifi-writer.com\/wpblog\/?p=1862","title":{"rendered":"Madman &#038; Luc Besson"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It looks like <a href=\"Atlantis: A World Beyond Words\">Madman Entertainment<\/a>\u00a0has taken over pretty much the entire rights to Australian distribution of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0000108\/\">Luc Besson<\/a> oeuvre. The documentary <em>Atlantis: A World Beyond Words<\/em> and the drama <em>Le grand bleu<\/em> will both be out on Blu-ray soon, to be followed by <em>La Femme Nikita<\/em> and <em>Leon: The Professional<\/em>, both excellent movies. And I&#8217;ve just looked at the company&#8217;s August catalogue to find that coming out in that month is <em>Subway<\/em>, <em>Le Dernier Combat<\/em> (<em>The Last Battle<\/em>) and &#8212;\u00a0at last! &#8212; <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hifi-writer.com\/he\/bdreviews\/fifthelement.htm\">The Fifth Element<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>That last one has been a very controversial title in the Blu-ray community. Sony released a <a href=\"http:\/\/hifi-writer.com\/wpblog\/?p=756\">very poor quality<\/a> version back in 2006. It was heavily criticised, so Sony released a remastered version of much higher quality, and subsequently released a version in Australia. Some claimed that the picture qualityof the Australian version was inferior to the remastered US version (eg. <a href=\"http:\/\/hifi-writer.com\/wpblog\/?p=108\">here<\/a>), but I did detailed examinations of both versions (<a href=\"http:\/\/hifi-writer.com\/wpblog\/?p=291\">here<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/hifi-writer.com\/wpblog\/?p=287\">here<\/a>) and established, almost conclusively I believe, that they were the same.<\/p>\n<p>And then Sony discontinued it.<\/p>\n<p>So of course it will be extremely interesting to see what Madman does with this movie. I shall do my very best to report on this title: the seventh version of <em>The Fifth Element<\/em> I have played with (VHS, standard Australian DVD release, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hifi-writer.com\/he\/superbit\/superbit.htm\">Australian Superbit DVD release<\/a>, US Sony Blu-ray release Mk1, Australian Sony Blu-ray release and US Sony Blu-ray release Mk2).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It looks like Madman Entertainment\u00a0has taken over pretty much the entire rights to Australian distribution of the Luc Besson oeuvre.
