I bought our NTSC version from online &#8230; I remember receiving something about there being a PAL version, but perhaps it came from Kanes in the US.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Unfortunately Joe Kane Productions\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.videoessentials.com\/index_1.htm\">stopped production of\u00a0<em>Video Essentials<\/em><\/a> in 2001. While it was being carried by\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ezydvd.com.au\/\">EzyDVD<\/a> for a while here in Australia, it seems that they have long since sold out. JKP are working on a new version (called\u00a0<em>Digital Video Essentials<\/em>) which they claim will be available in PAL, but their\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.videoessentials.com\/dve.htm\">web site<\/a>seems to have been last updated last year some time.<\/p>\n<p><img src=\"http:\/\/www.hifi-writer.com\/blog\/graphics\/ultplat.jpg\" alt=\"Ultimate DVD Platinum cover\"  class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-3443\" \/>Alternatives are the\u00a0<em>Ultimate DVD Platinum<\/em>, but this is\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ezydvd.com.au\/item.zml\/222730\">&#8216;Out of Stock&#8217; at EzyDVD<\/a> (and like\u00a0<em>Video Essentials<\/em> is in NTSC, so the settings made using the disc often don&#8217;t carry through to PAL playback).<\/p>\n<p>Alternatively, and perhaps more usefully, a number of &#8216;THX&#8217; logoed PAL DVDs have a system setup section. This is normally accessible through the &#8216;Setup&#8217; menu. Titles include\u00a0<em>Star Wars: Episode 1, The Phantom Menance<\/em>;\u00a0<em>Star Wars: Episode 2, Attack of the Clones<\/em> and\u00a0<em>Pearl Harbour<\/em>. Unfortunately these titles don&#8217;t have the colour filter that assists in nailing down this aspect of performance properly.<\/p>\n<p>From time to time I Google for a PAL setup DVD, but the only ones that seem like they may possibly meet my requirements seem to be professional-level German ones &#8230; and I can&#8217;t read German.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UPDATE<\/strong> <span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">(Thursday, 31 July 2003, 1:16 pm)<\/span>: The THX glasses can be purchased\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/secure.brandlocker.com\/promos\/thxpromo.cfm\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One of my editors has just written to me: I have a letter from a reader asking where to buy\u00a0Video Essentials.
