A good move

Panasonic DMP-BDT330 Blu-ray player

I’ve just started doing a review of the new Panasonic premium Blu-ray player, the DMP-DBT330. $299. Interesting inclusion in the accessories (I confirmed that it’s listed in the manual as part of the official accessories): a HDMI cable. Nothing fancy, but who cares.

That means that anyone who buys this player isn’t stuck for another $50 for a ridiculously overpriced HDMI cable which is all that’s normally on offer in the chain consumer electronics retailers.

Well done Panasonic.

    Hello Stephen,

When you do review the Panny, is there any chance you could comment on its sound quality.

I’m looking for a substitute for a CD player and, to save money, if I could find a good-sounding DVD player, it would save me having to buy a CD player as well.

    Thanks!

  2. Hi Adrian

That’s easy to answer: it has no sound. Seriously. There are no analogue audio outputs. (No analogue video ones either.) All it can do is pipe the sound out over HDMI or optical digital.

In my review I point out that you should change something. By default it outputs over HDMI Dolby Digital rather than Dolby TrueHD, and DTS rather DTS-HD Master Audio. So the settings need to be changed.

Well, I guess that answers that…

    Thank you anyway.
